Mothers’ Union

The Mothers’ Union is a Christian Organisation which seeks to strengthen, preserve and support marriage and family life. It’s objectives are:

  • To uphold Christ’s teaching on the nature of marriage and promote its wider understanding.
  • To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.
  • To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service.
  • To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.
  • To help those whose family life has met with adversity.

The Mothers’ Union at St John’s

Our branch here at St John’s was founded in 1912. Bradshaw was at the time a small village and the organization began with few members. These few, however, resolved to undertake the major task of raising funds for the renovation of the church organ. Membership over the years has increased and the Mothers’ Union soon became the mainstay of our parish life, organising social events (reputedly very lively events!) and raising much needed funds.

Our vision today is to maintain and advance the tradition of love and service begun by our founding members.

We currently have 24 members, and are always eager to welcome new ones. Membership is open to all regardless of status or gender.

Meetings

We meet once a month, on the first Tuesday of every month for worship, prayer and fellowship, usually with a guest speaker. Our theme for 2017 is “Faith in Action”. We have lots of fun, our meetings are never boring and always include a nice cuppa and home made delicacies.

We also raise money for various Mothers’ Union projects not only locally but world-wide.
